Rapper captures a mysterious orb on camera—plus, more music news

A mysterious entity that appears in footage for a music video has rapper Cesar “Crhymes” Tellez wondering if he's caught a UFO on tape.

On a Saturday afternoon in November, Tellez and some friends gathered in a strip-mall parking lot on 54th Street in Southeast San Diego to record the video for his song “Everyday,” featuring local rappers Black Mikey and Young Gee. Tellez didn't notice anything strange. But when he started editing the footage last week, he noticed that, at one point, a white orb flashes in the sky for a split second.

“I know there's no power lines back there,” he says. “I know there's no military bases shooting off rockets.”

Tellez posted a video detailing the phenomena to YouTube. Benjamin Radford, a scientific paranormal investigator, says he suspects the orb is a plane that's reflecting light from the sun. But Tellez, who plans to examine footage of a second cameraman, hasn't ruled out other possibilities.

“It could be government, or it could be alien,” he says. “I honestly don't know. I know it's not a camera trick.”

Swami Sound System on FM 94/9 might be gone, but John “Swami” Reis is now doing his show on internet radio service Slacker Radio, serving up prerecorded monologues and a hand-picked, customizable playlist. Reis tells CityBeat that he's worked with Slacker for about a year to build the station and obtain licensing rights for hundreds of tracks, many of them obscure. “It's cool having it on the phone,” he says. “It just seems like a James Bond gadget applied to primitive music.”
