This coming weekend is packed with solid-gold weirdness, and if there's one thing that turns a night out into a lifelong memory, it's a hard hit of WTF.
On Friday, June 22, go down to The Casbah and check out Maxfield Rubbish and His Oddly Alluring Flea Circus as they open for Quintron and Ms. Pussycat. There'll be deathdefying stunts performed by talented and (spoiler alert!) invisible fleas as puppeteered by Max Daily, along with his trusty sidekick. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll scratch your head. It's going to be kooky.
After your zany appetizer, you might crave a main course of straight-up silly. The Intense Individual Party on Saturday, June 23, is the perfect place to get your fill. Dress up as someone you think is completely and hilariously intense. In the past, that's resulted in Frida Kahlo, the steamy pottery-wheel scene from Ghost and Mormon sister wives all sharing the dance floor. Creator Lisa Comrie Gibson says the party is "like Halloween on steroids."
Luckily, these steroids won't cause shrinkage and rage. The $20 cover includes photo-booth action, food from the Inslider food truck and the satisfaction of knowing you're not the only stone-cold weirdo out there who likes to party. The intensity starts at 7 p.m. at Brick by Brick.
Now that you've let out your inner hyperactive kid, you may need to wind down. Join the Urban Bike and Social Club for Taco Tuesday Bike-In Movie Night on—duh—Tuesday. Everyone will meet at Hamilton's Tavern in South Park at 5:45 p.m., then ride over to El Zarape in University Heights to pick up some Mexican goodness. After that, the group will head to Trolley Barn Park to set up a giant inflatable movie screen, where they'll play a fun '80s flick. Organizer Jeremy Curran says it might be Caddyshack or Fast Times at Ridgemont High. You can't lose either way.
