Anniversaries are hard to remember. I'm definitely guilty of buying emergency Taco Bell after realizing I forgot a loved one's birthday. Taco Bell is a good gift, right? Luckily Facebook is around to remind you of important life events.
Facebook is also where I learned about some cool anniversary parties coming up. Like the 10-Year Anniversary Party of DJ Claire's happy hour, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Whistle Stop Bar (2236 Fern St. in South Park). Disclosure: DJ Claire is a good friend of mine. However, her skills on the 1's and 2's and killer taste in music (soul, soul and more soul!) had me coming to her happy hour long before we became buds. Groove to some super jams, drink in hand, and then get down with a live performance by Low Volts. DJ Mr. Mazee (aka Tim Mays, owner of The Casbah) will also take a turn on the tables. This'll be a great shindig to get your Saturday night started right.
San Diego Mixtape Society is also celebrating a birthday. The mixtape-making get-together turns a year old and will mark the milestone from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at Bottlecraft (2161 India St. in Little Italy). SDMS is asking attendees to create a mix with a sophomore-slump theme. Make a mix of songs you love from a band's second album and slap it on a CD, flash drive or Spotify link. You'll get a mix in return from another partygoer. My head is already spinning with ideas.
I couldn't find a third anniversary event, so I instead point you to The Sugar Room, a pop-up boutique and party happening from 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Lafayette Hotel (2223 El Cajon Blvd. in North Park). Eighteen indie designers and brands will sell their wares while electronic band Okapi Sun perform a live set. There'll also be art by nine local artists on view and DJ sounds from Adam Salter and Boys Don't Disco. Bring your wallet and your dancing shoes.
