Let’s hope this year’s fireworks are more like this.

If you're still lying in bed, distraught over last year's Fourth of July fireworks let down, don't fret. The 2012 Big Bay Boom turned into a premature bigbang bust, but the city's not going to let that happen again. No way, no how. It was too embarrassing. It was like the sky signed off with an explosive "Go fuck yourself, San Diego."

My guess is this year is going to be bigger and more badass. Here are three parties where you can check out the fireworks.

The Ivy Nightclub at Andaz (600 F St., Downtown) is taking full advantage of its rooftop bar and pool by hosting a Backyard BBQ and Fireworks Viewing PartyYou can watch the Big Bay Boom, as well as Coronado's Fireworks Over Glorietta Bay while splashing about in your swimmies. Electronic-music artist Them Jeans will perform a set, and local DJs Saul Q and Julz will continue to kick out the jams Lionel Richie-style—that is, all night long. Flex your abs in honor of America.

Alchemy (1503 30th St. in South Park) will hold a Fourth of July BBQ and Bicycle Parade. Nibble on some roasted pig and enjoy special-release beers from Societe Brewing Company or tasty vodka cocktails. It's America. It's your duty to drink. Also, because this is a celebration of the U.S. of A., there will be an apple-pie-eating contest. Afterward folks will head over to Golden Hill Park (Golden Hill Drive and 26th Street) to catch the fireworks. A fully belly pairs well with a patriotic spirit.

For something more mellow, the Lafayette Hotel and Swim Club (2223 El Cajon Blvd. in North Park) will host a poolside screening of the John Hughes classic The Breakfast Club. The flick starts at 8 p.m. While it might be hard to watch the fireworks while John Bender messes with the bull and, thus, gets the horns, at least you can cool off in the water. Maybe someone will bring some sparklers.
