Riverboat Gamblers are like a cocktail made from all the best punk ingredients: the snarl of Ian MacKaye, the ragtag-team-like chaos of Black Lips and the snottiness fellow Angelenos, The Descendents. Even unplugged, these boys retain a ferocity that could incite a mini riot.
In this episode of A Trolley Show, the band performs its confrontational song "What's What." The hand-played snare drum gives the song a slight Violent Femmes feel, a band whose ferocity the Riverboat Gamblers seem to evoke. It's not quite as caustic as "Kiss Off," but it comes pretty damn close.
