We end our years with a bang. We go hard. We throw down. Perhaps it's some subconscious need to shed everything ugly that happened to us in previous year, like a painful purging (sometimes quite literally, depending on how we spend your New Year's Eve). On the other hand, our entrance into the new year is gentle and often requires a couple of days to ease into the swing of things.

San Diego native Jessica Bell's "Roaming" is a perfect song with which to begin the new year. The gentle ukulele is reminiscent of a sunrise viewed through bloodshot eyes, and it's difficult to not be optimistic with an opening line like, "With each step it takes me farther down these brand new roads around this town." Here's to 2014.
