Theres a cinematic quality to Blondfire—and not just because siblings / songwriters Bruce and Erica Driscoll are photogenic as hell. Their brand of indie pop has a dark undercurrent that brings to mind scenes that could range from desaturated westerns to neon-highlighted noirs with lengthy shots of driving though a city at night.
In this episode of A Trolley Show, the Los Angeles band performs Waves, a song that builds tension through Spanish-style guitar reminiscent of Robert Rodriguezs El Mariachi movies. The elegance of Ericas voice provides an effective contrast to the violence brought upon by her lyrical waves. Oh, and theres also a rooster that shows up before their performance—not exactly John Woos doves, but cinematic enough.
