Ah, the ubiquitous Guitar Guy. We all know him: He's the person with the magical ability to procure his rustic six-string out of thin air during the most inopportune moments. He'll display his sensitivities through mournful ballads even though his poetic license is long expired. Most of the time, he's a nuisance, but occasionally chicks will dig it, so he plays a game of averages.
If it's not apparent, we at CityBeat aren't often fans of Guitar Guy, but we make exceptions. In this episode of A Trolley Show, Passenger (nom de plum of English songwriter Michael David Rosenberg) performs "Let Her Go," a sensitive tune which gets a boost from Rosenburg's excellent finger-picking. And the transition of him playing in shade of the transit station to the daylight mirrors the simultaneously sad and hopeful elements of the song, giving the performance some extra weight.
