The last time we had American Authors on this show, they performed Best Day of My Life, which has since gone on to soundtrack the general emotion of happiness. Its hard to turn on the TV without hearing it—even Lowe's and Hyundai have used it in their marketing campaigns (which doesnt entirely temper the murderous rage felt when driving or conducting home repairs, but its a noble effort).
In this episode of A Trolley Show, the Brooklyn band performs Believer, a similarly uplifting song with the refrain Im just a believer that things will get better. As easy as it would be to discount this kind of stuff as naive, theres something refreshing in the earnestness. Hell, if they can convince a bunch of tired commuters to sing along, maybe things arent as bad as we think.
