Our rundown of the must-drink events of 2011

sandiegobeerweekguide
As much you yearn for my elegant prose, San Diego Beer Week needs no introduction. It's equal parts celebration and phenomenon, a phenobration, if you will. Here's the kind of events you can expect from a brewing guild with enough hubris to redefine “week” as 11 days:

Rare Beer Breakfast @ Stone: Start the day with beer as usual, but let Stone will throw in pork belly and crepes—an elegant beer brekkie, if that can exist. From 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Nov. 4.

Barrel Aged Night @ Downtown Johnny Brown's: This has gotten high marks year after year and is likely to bring the heat again. At 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4.

Brewers Guild Festival @ Liberty Station: A perfect microcosm of the San Diego beer scene—a pretty fulfilling VIP experience for the cost, as well. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5.

Iron Fist Brewery rarities / Meet the Brewer @ Local Habit: Go for the beer, stay because Brandon is adorable. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

Ballast Point tap takeover @ Churchills: Barrel-aged everything, a Ballast Point-inspired menu and the Chargers choking on live TV. Heaven. From 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

AleSmith / CheeseSmith pairing @ URGE: At 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

Dogfish Head specialties @ Hamilton's: 120 Minute IPA. 'Nuff said. At 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

Silva Stout Release Part @ Green Flash: A $45 ticket (http://arestravel.com/5279_attraction-tickets_a995.html) buys you a four-pack of Silva Stout, four tasters of Green Flash rarities, stout-infused bites and mad street cred. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Meet the Brewer @ On-The-Tracks Brewery: It's her birthday. If you don't go, you're a monster. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Flavor of Yeast @ Sea Rocket Bistro: learn about yeast from the folks who supply San Diego with it. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Karl Strauss cask night with Heavy Petti Double IPA @ Karl Strauss restaurants: A beer that tastes as good as getting to second base feels. At 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10.

Night of a Million Zillion Speedways @ O'Briens: A dozen aged and limited-run AleSmith Speedway Stouts. So only about 999,988 Speedways shy of their promise. From 5 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Mad River Casks @ The Linkery: A standout brewery that doesn't get enough shine. At 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Green Flash 9th Anniverary @ Green Flash: Drink special cask selections while bettering your karma since all proceeds go to Susan G. Koman for the Cure. If you don't go, you must support cancer. From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Pour it Black @ Stone: More than 100 black beers of all stripes. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.

Beer Garden @ Lodge at Torrey Pines: Finally, a beer event you can wear your dickie to. This understated event is a gourmet-craft-beer-and-food pairing Nirvana at any price. From noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.
