Not a new cereal brand, but a trend

So true.
Somewhere between shopping for school supplies and the printing of the edition of CityBeat with my Urban Scout column featuring Morning Glory, the little shop with great backpacks went out of business. But don't dismay—there is fresh-cute on Convoy! And this one can fill all your "K-Pop" needs—that's highly manufactured Korean pop music by the likes of bands Big Bang, J-Park, and Rain, the kind that gets the kids screaming and dancing along. The store is called Style Candie (4688 Convoy St.) and I almost gave my daughter whiplash when I saw the new Hello Kitty sign in a nondescript strip mall. (This nondescript strip mall also has a store that sells Korean cosmetics called "The History of Whoo.")

Besides carrying oodles of Asian teen-pop CDs and videos, the shop has a random assortment of Angry Birds-adorned merchandise. In fact, the Angry Birds stuff is so prevalent at all the Kearny cute shops these days, it's definitely winning in the epic battle with Hello Kitty for shelf space. There were AB iPhone covers, backpacks, stuffies, notebooks and more. Of course, there wasn't an Angry Birds toilet bowl brush, and there was a Hello Kitty one, so maybe the takedown isn't yet complete. Weird sushi bobble heads, fake Coca-Cola cans that are actually tissue dispensers, Totoro watches and these sealed-up boxes that simply read: "Some Thing: Is it not by love alone that we succeed in penetrating to."

Um, sure?
