Amy Thoma, deputy campaign manager for Nathan Fletcher, a candidate for San Diego mayor, sent the following message this evening via email:
Carl DeMaio is a hypocrite.
He has made a big deal of his claim that he won't take endorsements or contributions from labor groups, because as mayor he might have to negotiate with them some day, and that would create a "conflict of interest."
If you follow that logic, Carl shouldn't take the endorsement of any group or individual with business potentially pending before the city.
And if that's the case, he should return the tens of thousands in contributions and endorsements he's received from lobbyists and contractors with business before the city.
He should put his money where his mouth is.
Here at Team Fletcher, we welcome support from all individuals and groups like the California Small Business Association, Neighborhood Market Association and hundreds of CEOs who support Nathan's approach to governing -- bringing groups with differing views together to find solutions. We know -- and they know -- there will be no special treatment for anyone. An investment in Nathan's campaign is an investment in a new energy, a new vision and a new generation of leadership.
