It's the end of the week and your bank account is a little bit chunkier, thanks to your paycheck showing up through direct deposit. What a great invention. Going to the bank on pay day is the worst. So now that your wallet is a little fatter, head out to these great shopping events to spend a bit of your hard-earned dough. Awesome bonus: Spending that dough will be doing some good at these events. ---

On Sunday, July 29, Shop Good is holding an ethical, eco-friendly pop-up shop at 1014 Fifth Ave. in Downtown. Local labels Future:Standard, Sseko Designs and 31 Bits will be selling clothing and accessories that support the planet and the people who inhabit it. For example, Sseko Designs employs Ugandan women during the nine-month gap between high school and university in order to provide them with tuition money. So it's not just sandals and clutch bags you're buying, but also an opportunity for young African women to be educated. Cue your tears now. Luckily, their goods are also really cute. None of that crunchy granola stuff high-school art teachers wear. Same goes for all the other vendors. Admission to the shopping event, happening from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., is free.

Speaking of empowering women, WEE (Women Entrepreneur Empowerment) along with Market Creek Plaza (310 Euclid Ave.) is holding the Women's Multicultural Marketplace from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4. Come out and buy food and products from local female business owners. Expect lots of accessories, clothing and other knick-knacks. It's a chance to support the ladies who handle business and are working hard to support themselves and their families. Beyonce would be so proud. Girls! We run this motha...!
