Public Enemy's Chuck D will be a keynote speaker at this year's San Diego Music Thing, says Kevin Hellman, whose  San Diego Music Foundation is organizing the event. (Disclosure: Hellman is also CityBeat's publisher.)

We don't know yet what the iconic, politically-conscious rapper will talk about, but we can assume it'll be pretty interesting. Aside from performing with Flavor Flav in Public Enemy, he's written a book on hip-hop culture, Fight the Power: Rap, Race, and Reality, and once co-hosted Air America Radio's Unfiltered morning show with Rachel Maddow and Lizz Winstead.

MC5 founder Wayne Kramer and Killing Joke's Martin Atkins will also be featured speakers at the conference portion of the event. The festival and conference takes place Sept. 14 and 15. Head to the fest's website for tickets and more information.

CityBeat's Seth Combs interviewed Chuck D in 2006; check out the interview here and listen to Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" below.
