Has it been a whole year since Tiger!Tiger! opened? Indeed, it has. The North Park tavern's celebrating its first b-day all month. On Friday, Sept. 14, and Saturday, Sept. 15, Automatic Brewing Co. will release a special anniversary beer. From the T!T! website: "It's going to be a stout. Maybe with coffee. Maybe with coconut. Maybe draught. Maybe Nitro. Maybe in growlers. Definitely awesome." ---
Also this week, El Dorado Cocktail Lounge releases its fall menu. Unlike past menu-release parties, they haven't yet provided a list of the new concoctions. But, we did come across this fun lil' blog post in which the El-D folks discuss how they go about creating a new menu.
So, yeah, we were a little wary of the concept behind Sora (655 West Broadway, Downtown). Italian dishes with Japanese influence? Then one of our fave local foodies tweeted some photos (and praise) during a recent lunch there, so we took a look at the menu. Some items that got our attention: Cauliflower Panna Cotta (cauliflower custard, grilled lobster, aged balsamic vinegar), edamame ravioli and Tartare Amaebi (sweet shrimp in a white soy sauce with wasabi mousse). The executive chef, Noriyoshi Teruya, worked under Chef Nobu Matsuhisa in the flagship Nobu restaurant in New York City and also at Nobu in Milan.

Last month, we wrote about the closing of Normal Heights bar, Kadan. Slated to replace it is Polite Provisions, the new project by Consortium Holdings, the restaurant group that includes Underbelly, Neighborhood and Craft & Commerce. The concept is drug-store soda fountain that's supposed to be an homage to main street America; the menu will include spiked milkshakes and craft cocktails. Adjoining it will be Soda & Swine, a restaurant that will specialize in meatballs and apple pie. Yep. Meatballs. Apple Pie.
