This week, CityBeat columnist Ian Cheesman previewed 18 San Diego Beer Week events that, when combined, could potentially turn your liver into Jell-O. But, since Beer Week includes more than 300 events, we went digging for additional cool happenings. Here's what we found out: ---
Venissimo Cheese (871 G St., Downtown) is having a blind beer-and-cheese tasting that starts at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5. There will be 14 cheeses paired with seven different brews, challenging attendees' taste buds to name the correct styles. The cost is $50-and portions are generous at Venissimo's events.
On election day, Tuesday Nov. 6, Lee Chase's Automatic Brewing Co. is releasing its new beer, Vote for Obama. If you're wearing an "I Voted" sticker, the 5.6-percent ABV, .5L of beer costs $5. Otherwise, it's $7. Then watch the election results live (without sound) at Blind Lady Ale House (3416 Adams Ave., Normal Heights) with hope and the beer that represents it. The same deal is going down at sister restaurant, Tiger!Tiger! Tavern (3025 El Cajon Blvd., North Park).
Hops and Heels is a dessert-and-beer pairing event happening at The Pearl Hotel (1410 Rosecrans St., Point Loma) happening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. For $20, guests get four Stone Brewing Co. beers paired with four desserts from the Cuban-style patisserie, Azucar. Hops and Heels is all about the ladies, but gents are welcome, too.
Mmmm... beer cocktails. Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, Craft & Commerce gives you the chance to taste beers from Port and Lost Abbey sans mixers first, then in cocktail form-like a Witches Wit Tiki or 10 Commandments Bees Knees.
And, some quick hits:
* Sea Rocket kicks off a week of Belgian beers with a special menu on Friday, Nov. 2.
* Alchemy is hosting a vegetarian tasting menu with beer pairings on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
* Like sours? They're at Sessions Public on Friday, Nov. 2, Stone Brewing on Saturday, Nov. 3 and Local Habit on Saturday, Nov. 10. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, The Beer Co. is the location for the Best Damn Sour Fest.
