Oh, happy day. Bottlecraft's second location (3007 University Ave. in North Park), conveniently mere steps from CityBeat's office, is now open. Or, well, softly open for the next month or so while they stock inventory and get the place spiffed up. But even now, it's a lovely spot with a selection that'll mildly overwhelm beer newbies and please beer aficionados. Like their Little Italy location, it's a craft-beer wonderland. And they have wine! A small selection for now, but a good selection, with prices in the $8 to $20 range. And rose! One CB staffer who's on a rose kick was stoked to see it in stock, both on the shelf and chilling in the fridge-a Sangre del Toro rose and a La Playa cabernet sauvignon rose. Bottlecraft's open seven days a week, from noon to 10 p.m. Unlike the Little Italy location, there's no beer available to try in the shop, but that might change down the line. ---

Also new to North Park this week is the dessert bar Swoon, which is holding a grand opening party and art show in the adjoining gallery space from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. The menu includes dessert flights and sweet (e.g., chocolate-chip cookies paired with a vanilla milkshake panna cota) and savory (e.g., a smoked-salmon eclair with dill, marscarpone, capers and red onions) options. Check out Swoon's Facebook page for more info.

Few restaurants in San Diego have the space Wang's does (it's located in the former Big Lots building in North Park). The Chinese restaurant is celebrating its anniversary and the Chinese New Year with a bunch of events that kick off on Friday, Feb. 8, where you can sample appetizers and take advantage of happy-hour prices at the bar. On Saturday, Feb. 9, Wang's will be serving a traditional Chinese New Year's dinner in addition to their regular menu. Sunday, Feb. 10, features an 8 p.m. performance by Blue Ming, a traditional Chinese dance troupe. Get more details on events here.

The first San Diego Winter Brew Fest takes place Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier. Sample beers from Port Brewing, Lost Abbey, Lagunitas, Belching Beaver, Avery, Green Flash and more than a dozen others. Tickets are $50 in advance for VIP, $40 in advance for general admission and proceeds support Outdoor Outreach and the San Diego Mountain Bike Association.

New cocktails! Grant Grill's Jeff Josenhans is making use of seasonal citrus from the U.S. Grant Hotel's rooftop garden. Check it:

We've gotten a lot of emails about Valentine's Day dinners. To make your choice easier, here are two we particularly like: Jaynes Gastropub and Blueprint Cafe.

“The Internet was a wonderful invention. It was a wonderful network which people used to remind other people that they were awful pieces of shit.” It’s a hell of a way to start a novel,...
