This afternooon, Bronwyn Ingram sent out an email announcing she'd broken off her engagement to Mayor Bob Filner. The email doesn't say why and Ingram, who works as a disability-claims analyst for the Social Security Administration, hasn't responded to a request for an interview.
The email was sent to members of "Team First Lady," a volunteer group Ingram organized shortly after Filner was elected to focus on homelessness and community issues. While Filner and Ingram didn't have a wedding date set, she was often at his side during the mayoral campaign and at public appearances after his election. As CityBeat's John Lamb put it last fall, Ingram was "the truest trooper of this long-winded, road-apple-dotted campaign season." ---
With great sadness, I must inform you that I am unable to continue my efforts on behalf of the homeless population in San Diego. I am dissolving my volunteer organization, Team First Lady San Diego. I want to recognize the hard work and dedication of all of the TFLSD volunteers and I hope that you will continue performing the wonderful work that you do within your communities.
I have broken off my engagement to Bob Filner and ended our relationship. I have struggled with this decision as I really wanted to see the community projects we had initiated with such enthusiasm come to fruition. I am extremely disappointed and heartbroken, both for what Team First Lady could have accomplished, and for me, personally; however, this is the only action I can take given the devolvement of our personal relationship. I wish Bob the best and sincerely hope those who have worked so hard on behalf of Team First Lady will continue their efforts in the same spirit of generosity for the communities of San Diego.
