'From the Ages' to be released in October

Earthless - From the Ages
Earthless - From the Ages
There aren’t many bands in San Diego that make rock music as cosmic and massive as Earthless does. The psychedelic rock trio—comprising bassist Mike Eginton, guitarist Isaiah Mitchell and Hot Snakes/Rocket From the Crypt drummer Mario Rubalcaba—use rock music as a launchpad for exploration into realms where scant few rock bands will boldly go. In fact, a band of their ilk could only be called Earthless, for at their most intense, they seem to defy gravity, circling their own orbit rather than being pulled down by terrestrial forces. ---

In October, however, the band is making contact with tranquility base, as they release their first new album in six years. From the Ages, the band’s third album in 12 years, will be released on Oct. 8 via Tee Pee Records. Earthless’ previous album, Rhythms From a Cosmic Sky, contained only three tracks, two of which extended well beyond 20 minutes each, and the new album looks comparably epic, with its title track eating up a full 30 minutes.

For the time being, Earthless haven’t released any new songs off From the Ages, but while we wait for the first thunderous blast of new music from the band, you can check out a video of a performance of “Sonic Prayer Jam” in 2012. Watch and find out why the group has been called “California’s loudest band.”
