'Eye of the Space Connection' by Victor Pena

Digable art

In addition to being a great events venue, Space 4 Art (325 15th St. in East Village) also houses studios where more than two-dozen artists create their work. Meet three of those artists on Saturday, July 27, when Space 4 Art holds an opening reception for the first in a series of tenant exhibitions. Victor Pena, Meghan Augustine and Bob Jones will have work on display from 7 to 10 p.m. Pena, a self-taught artist, creates abstract-impressionist paintings and drawings that are both contemporary and timeless. Jones is a sculptor who refashions cast-off items into pieces that have made their way into exhibitions at galleries in Brooklyn, Chicago, Portland and Miami. As for Augustine, get a website, lady!-but we dig the piece on the event page.

Digable film

Summer has a lot of benefits. Being able to eat popsicles with abandon, barbecues with friends that go well into the night and outdoor movies. That third one makes for a perfect date night or even just a mellow evening with good friends. San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park returns with their Film in the Garden series, screening classic films in their outdoor sculpture garden. On Monday, July 29, pack a blanket for a screening of Alfred Hitchcock's noir classic, Rear Window. The film is free of charge and the museum's café will have snacks and drinks, including a full bar, for sale (no outside booze allowed). A glass of wine and a little Hitchock? Sounds like a stellar evening. The film starts at 8 p.m., but arrive early to get a good spot.

Digable brews

LOVELIKEBEER's mission is simple: show folks that vegan dishes pair well with beer and raise some money for worthy charities while doing it. From 5 to 10 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, LLB will be at Monkey Paw (1805 16th St. in East Village), where they'll roll out a new collaboration with the East Village pub-the Monkey Paw / LOVELIKEBEER Lemon Balm and Mint Saison. For $14, get a pint of the new brew and a Mumbai Monkey Sandwich with crispy curried tofu and ginger-sesame slaw. A portion of sales will benefit Ferdinand's Familia All Species Animal Rescue, an awesome nonprofit that places difficult-to-adopt pets in loving homes. And if you decide vegan food ain't your thing, Monkey Paw has a delicious, carnivore-friendly menu, too.

Digable brews, pt. 2

Since the Brew Rendezvous seeks to raise money for Community Health Improvement Partners, a think-tank focused on identifying critical healthcare needs in San Diego, we're sure that attendees will show a little self restraint and not overindulde. Eh, who're we kidding? When you've got a line-up that includes Manzanita Brewing Co., Stone, Coronado Brewing Co. and Lost Abbey (plus half-a-dozen more) how can you not go all-out? The fundraiser, happening from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the Handlery Hotel (950 Hotel Circle N. in Mission Valley), includes beer, food from spots like Alchemy, Urban Solace, Carnitas Snack Shack and The Lodge at Torrey Pines, and, to balance things out, healthy eats from a number of local organic farms. Tickets are $45 ($60 VIP), or $20 for non-drinking designated drivers.
