Where beer elites meet

Whether you drink beer or not, there’s no denying that it's an inextricable part of San Diego culture. When the pace at which new breweries emerge rivals the spread of Starbucks, it’s safe to say that craft brew is a phenomenon. That kind of notoriety breeds fandom, which in turn breeds the need for like-minded fans to commiserate, argue, and plotz over new developments. Enter Beer-Con 2013. ---

Now in it’s 3rd year, the Beer-Con offers an immersive, two-day beer-geek experience on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10. It includes everything from brewery tours and tastings to a full-fledged day of structured presentations on different aspects of the craft-brew world. There’s even a breakout session on the experience of writing about craft beer at which I’ve somehow not been asked to speak. I’m not bitter, though. In fact, I’m hoping to attend that session and use it to augment my skill set (in between my drunken outbursts at the panel, of course).

As of this posting, the two-day tickets that include the multiple brewery tours have sold out, but tickets are still available for the Saturday conference events, including the Tap Haven Beer Fest at the day’s close.
