* No plans tonight? Rumbling Tins Co. is hosting The Fine Art of Craft Cocktails, a mixing-drinks demo and three-course pairing dinner at The Westgate Hotel. The RT guys will be discussing the history of spirits and cocktails and making-and-serving tips. Rumbling Tins includes Sycamore Den's Eric Johnson, Craft & Commerce's Leigh Lacap and Alex Maynard, Banker's Hill's Christian Siglin and David Kinsey, who's behind the bar at both Sycamore Den and C&C. These dudes make some awesome drinks. The event, which will go from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Fountainebleu Room, is a steal for $79 (tax and tip not included), for both what you'll learn and the food and drinks you'll enjoy. Get tickets and info here.

* Need more lead time? Mark down Saturday, March 29, on your calendar. From 4 to 7 p.m. Hiatus Lounge at the Hotel La Jolla (7955 La Jolla Shores Drive) hosts Gin Fest. The event, sponsored by Nolet's, Citadel, Aviation and Plymouth, includes tastings, classic-cocktail demos and roasted chicken-because what pairs better with gin than slow-roasted chicken? Tickets are a mere $10.

* Juniper & Ivy, headed up by Top Chef's Richard Blais, opened last week. Helming the bar is one of my fave cocktail creators, Jen Queen. I haven't had a chance to get over there yet, but the cocktail menu is exactly what you'd expect from Queen: classics, culinary-minded infusions (bone-marrow bourbon? Wow) and drinks that show off Queen's expertise in tequila and mescal. I've got my eye on the Fractured & Fixed with mescal, bourbon, cocoa nib coulis, mint and angostura bitters.
