“Why don't Jewish mothers drink? Alcohol interferes with their suffering...”
Expect all that and a bagel with lox when comedian Alan King appears at the Jewish Book Fair to promote his latest offering, the Great Jewish Joke Book. Ironically, King's often self-deprecating Yiddish comedy won't be the most controversial appearance at this year's fair. That honor was taken by inter-stellar Jew Leonard Nimoy last month, when the ex-Spock showed the San Diego convention the supposedly smutty yet spiritual photos that got him, ahem, excused from a similar gathering of Jewish community leaders in Seattle. King, on the other hand, will seem like comfort food to the crowd, spreading good, schmaltzy cheer with his bumper sticker-ish zingers.
