I saw Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson's The World of Jewtopia when it premiered in West Hollywood in 2003, and I was one of the only critics who gave it a hands-down rave. The rest of the world eventually caught up, like I knew it would—in 2009, this off-Broadway smash has been seen by 400,000 people in five cities, and it shows no signs of slowing down (there's even a book out patterned after the play). Please go see what the fuss is about on June 13 or 14 (or both) as Jewtopia visits the Jewish Community Center's David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre, replete with outrageous sight gags and self-effacing takes on Jewish foibles and traditions (plus you'll get the full scoop on the only Jewish mom never to brag about her kid, who happens to be “Son of Sam” killer David Berkowitz). The venue is located at 4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla. $33.50-$50. 858-362-1348, www.tickets.jcc.org.
