Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, 700 Prospect St., La Jolla, 858-454-3541 Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m.
Um, poetic license, anyone? Quincy Troupe's announcement of his resignation from a long and stellar-and now tarnished-teaching career at UCSD should make his reading at the MCASD-La Jolla that much more poignant and timely. Ethics issues notwithstanding, it'll be a chance for the public to appreciate Troupe's sizable talent and contributions to the local literary and artistic scenes.
Booked long before the bachelor's degree brouhaha, which eventually resulted in his resignation from both the California poet laureate post and the teaching gig at UCSD, Tuesday night should also be a homecoming of sorts for the poet and Miles Davis biographer. Troupe has been the organizer of the museum's brilliant Artists on the Cutting Edge: Cross Fertilizations series for the past decade.
He'll be reading from his new book, Transcircularities: New and Selected Poems.
