Best comment: "Attention world!!! Keep your children close... Archery loves wieners!"
Goes well with: Muddy Waters, bad weather, Jack White with a tambourine in a New York City dive bar
A righteous world is one where the guitars chug-a-lug-a-lug and the drums cla-clunk and the microphones are fuzzy and full of static background noise and endearingly amateur missteps. This world is filled to the brim with chunky, meandering blues-rock from 20-somethings with late-night and early-morning arpeggio habits and equally important appointments with a whiskey bottle. In this world, the virtuous sex it up with shaggy-headed hipster boys and the sober are damned to a life of stale misery.
It's delightful, this imaginary blues world. And while it may not be the one that Archery lives, their music sure sounds like they do.
The band formed a little more than a year ago when childhood friends Spencer Rabin (guitar/vocals) and Danny O'Connell (bass) joined Marco Gonzales (guitar), Christy Zaragoza (drums) and x-Flying Douglas guitarist-keyboardist Anthony Levas for a few sessions. A self-titled EP later, the band's lo-fi thud is making a stir with local web surfers. And while Archery's MySpace page doesn't lay out anything beyond the basics, the single tracks they've been posting are well worth a few visits a day. They'll roll out more tracks over the next few months, too-all of which should be perfect for kicking a shitty day square in the teeth.
Note: Another band may already have the rights to the name "Archery," so San Diego's version may be calling themselves The Red Feathers soon. Check their MySpace to keep tabs.
