San Diego's first Pinkberry has finally opened in the Hard Rock Hotel Downtown. In a word, meh. Not quite worth the hype, or the wait. We're still getting our yogurt-fix at Yogurt World and Hillcrest's Yog-art (which is opening a new location in North Park).
Favorite salads at the moment? Anything that integrates fresh summer fruit, so we're all about Point Loma's Roseville restaurant's watermelon salad. The new eatery's concoction—a combo of sweet red and yellow watermelon, salty feta and peppery arugula—tasted amazingly refreshing on a recent hot night. 1125 Rosecrans St., www.rosevillesd.com.
Soon, that pint of Stone Ruination IPA you're drinking will be brewed by the sun. Stone Brewery has installed a new 312 kilowatt solar-panel system on its roof that'll supply about 43 percent of the brewery's energy needs, putting it in the top 12 percent of California businesses that tap into solar power. It's expected to save the brewery more than $3 million in electricity costs—and with hops prices on the rise, every little bit counts.
Iowa Meat Farms on Mission Gorge Road should be your one-stop barbecue shop. On top of carrying everything that you'd ever want to throw on a grill, there's a walk-in refrigerated section filled with lots of local and imported beer. www.iowameatfarms.com.
Harney Sushi opens its second location this week in Oceanside, near the pier. Five percent of sales from July 11 to 17 go to the California Surf Museum. The new spot's located at 301 Mission Ave., 760-967-1820.
The popular Los Angeles salad/sandwich spot Tender Greens has opened a location in Liberty Station in Point Loma. Their thing is local-when-possible, so they're using vegetables from Temecula's Crows Pass and seafood from Pacific Shellfish in Pacific Beach. Here's hoping the next transplant from Culver City will be Father's Office, the renowned burger/local beer joint. 2400 Historic Decatur Road. www.tendergreensfood.com.
