Food University comes to IKEA San Diego (2149 Fenton Pkwy. in Mission Valley) on March 26 as part of a 10-city tour designed to teach people how to prepare healthy, in-season meals. Chefs, including The Food Network's animated Curtis Aiken, will teach free cooking demonstrations from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free.
Look at you, Mission Valley! Hosting all these food events. The second annual Mission Valley Craft Beer Festival takes place from noon to 6 p.m. March 27, at The Handlery Hotel & Resort (950 Hotel Circle N.). If the words “unlimited craft beer and bites” don't get you there, perhaps the part about proceeds going to Fresh Start Surgical Gifts for disadvantaged kids with physical deformities will. I can't stomach the name of the event, Suds for Surgeries, so let's pretend it doesn't exist. Search Mission Valley Craft Beer Festival on Facebook for more details. Purchase your $35-$40 tickets at brownpapertickets.com.
Yu Me Ya (1246 N. Coast Hwy 101 in Encinitas), the family-owned, Izakaya-style sake bar, will open its second location in the strip mall at the corner of University and Fourth avenues in Hillcrest, across from Bread & Cie. Chef Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares is accepting applications not just from San Diego County restaurant owners whose establishments have gone south, but also from the public. Nominate your once-fave, now-biggest-disappointment locale by email@example.com or calling 866-226-2226. Be nice—the restaurant angels are watching, and they have weapons that will hurt you.
Nicolas Bour, who replaced Ryan Grant as executive chef of El Bizcocho (17550 Bernardo Oaks Drive in Rancho Bernardo) in January, helms his first big event on the property on Thursday, March 24. The restaurant's sixth Dining Odyssey, “French Flavors,” will feature six wine-paired courses. $75 without wine, $105 with. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m.; reservations are required: 858-675-8550.
Hillcrest's Terra Restaurant closed Friday and will reopen on April 6 as farm-to-fork Terra American Bistro in the College Area (7091 El Cajon Blvd.), designed with mostly repurposed materials.
Sammy's Woodfired Pizza's Point Loma location (2401 Truxtun Road, Suite 102) will host a $30 five-course, beer-paired Ballast Point “Meet the Brewer” dinner at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 23. Courses are capped with a Black Marlin Porter Float. What more do you want?
The Wine Pub (2907 Shelter Island Drive in Point Loma) now delivers wine to your door by bike. The new, complimentary service is offered to residents in zip codes 92106 and 92107. Live on a hill? Forget about it—it's car delivery for you. Oh, don't look so disappointed. You're the one who's too drunk already to pick up the wine yourself.
