When Trattoria Acqua closed on Jan. 1 after 17 years in business, owners Michael and Victoria McGeath vowed that they'd open a restaurant elsewhere. Nearly six months later, they're working on a farm-to-table concept called Brooklyn Girl Eatery, slated to open this fall at 4033 Goldfinch St. in Mission Hills. According to the website, brooklyngirleatery.com, the restaurant will feature three square meals per day plus a late-night menu, local craft beers and wine and prepared “to-go” meals.

On the topic of Del Mar, Dallman Chocolate Boutique, a wholesale chocolate company with confectioner roots in Austria but headquartered in El Cajon, has opened its first retail location—at the Flower Hill Prome nade (2720 Via De La Valle). The owner's father is one of two chocolatiers responsible for the hand-made Mozartkugel, differentiated from the mass-produced by its silver and blue— rather than gold—wrapper. These chocolates, both the hand-made and not, are found in nearly every tourist spot in Vienna and Salzburg. Love that this shop is near Venissimo, 'cause chocolate and cheese go mighty well together. dallmannconfections.com
