For the 2011 Summer Salon Series, Alexander Jarman, programs manager at the San Diego Museum of Art, put out a call to artists, musicians and performers asking them to answer one simple question: What does a city need?
The answers he got can be seen, heard and experienced in the weekly summertime soirees that take over the museum every Thursday night from 5 to 9 p.m. through Sept. 1.
This week, I finally came up for air after burying my head in the CityBeat redesign (our new look launches this Wednesday, Aug. 17!) and edited a podcast with Jarman that I recorded a few months ago. From describing artist/filmmaker Ash Eliza Smith's venturous film project and touching on a few other exciting site-specific pieces that have gone down at the Summer Salon this year to giving us a little teaser for what's to come, Jarman gives us some insight into some of the programming.
If all goes well, the CityBeat podcast will continue once a week with perhaps a few small changes. Stay aboard and please don't forget to share this link with at least 10 of your friends. CityBeat is more than just a newspaper nowadays.
