The house venue known as Habitat House is now officially under the ownership of Zack Nielsen, founder of the arts nonprofit Sezio. The house was in foreclosure, and Nielsen bought it in a short sale.
Habitat House, a craftsman-style home in Golden Hill, is a popular spot for art and live music shows. Nielsen moved into the house last year with Cuckoo Chaos guitarist Jackson Milgaten and graphic designer Dylan Ousley to start putting on events after a period of inactivity. They launched a website, habitathouse.org, and have been holding events there ever since.
Ousley will move to New York City in November, and Sezio photographer Carly Ealey will move into his room. But Nielsen doesn't have major plans for the house, he says.
“We're just going to do minor improvements over time and add a coat of paint some time in the near future,” he says.
U-31 is launching a new series, Bajaton, that's devoted to moombahton, a popular electronic-music genre that crosses Dutch house with reggaeton. It'll happen on a Wednesday every month, and there will be no cover. It kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 21, with Miami's Jwls and L.A.'s Etc!Etc! headlining.
Lately, Jamuel Saxon mastermind Keith Milgaten has been making dance-music remixes of tracks by famous artists like R. Kelly and Enya, playing them under the name Keithxsn and posting them for free download on Jamuel Saxon's Soundcloud page. He'll celebrate the release of a new remix album, Forces You Can Control, at Kava Lounge on Friday, Sept. 23. Night Brawl and Latin Lovers will also play, and DJ Matty P. will spin tunes.
Indie-folkies Red Pony Clock will celebrate the release of their new album, Whatevz Forevzzz, at Tin Can Ale House on Saturday, Sept. 24. Doves and Desperados, D/Wolves and Foreign Film will also perform, and patrons can feast on a 6-foot-long party burrito.
